Whale Camp

We dropped Lutheran Chick #2 off in Bangor Maine to begin her second summer of two weeks at

This is a camp devoted to marine exploration located on Grand Manan island off of the coast of Maine and New Brunwick. The kids travel by van to New Brunswick where they take a ferry to Grand Manan. They study North American Right whales and puffins. There is a marine biology observatory camp on the island which also has other places to stay as well. They have a very informative website which you can reach at http://www.whalecamp.com/. And they have really great pictures.

We found out about this wonderful experience from a friend when our older daughters were traveling with People to People (another great program).

Since LC#2 wants to be a marine biologist, it does not get much better than this. Kids and adults come from around the world to this place. They spend days out on the boat, and hiking, and sea kayaking. It is a bit chillly. The high temp last year was 70 so you can guess about the water. This is our daughter's last year to do this because of other activities but she has had two phenomenal years to decide that this is her dream. We feel so blessed that she could do this. She has the camera and maybe her whale pics will be better than mine. ( But it is hard to take pictures when you are just so in awe).
